Janet H's Thin Place : Warrior Beach
When we found the soldier, my
daughter said, “You know, Mom, you
deserve a knight in shining armor.”
The beach is a place of solace and comfort for me. It is also a place of connection. When I am walking along, I often think of my mother who also loved the beach. I sometimes find things in the sand at these moments which are special gifts she sends.
These things always seem to come in moments of my greatest need to connect with her.
The last time, I went with my daughter, and knew there was something not right with my husband. I was feeling unclear and I look down and I find what I thought was a British soldier or a soldier anyway.
And my first thought was I’m fighting for my life.
When I came home, I realized that soldier had been a cautionary sign from my mother.
It turned out that my husband had been cheating on me with a friend of mine. He looked me in the eye and said, “It’s over."
And the battle began.
When I'd showed my daughter the soldier at the beach, she'd said, “You know, Mom, you deserve a knight in shining armor.”
And I thought to myself, “I need to be my own knight in shining armor.”
